About

The Australian Centre for Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (ACCIDD) is situated in the Institute of Clinical Pathology & Medical Research (ICPMR) building at Westmead Hospital - a Teaching Hospital of the University of Sydney.

Over the past two decades, ACCIDD has provided assistance to developing countries in the Asia-Pacific Region to fight Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD). The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates over two billion people live in areas of iodine deficiency, and are at risk of one or more of the adverse effects of IDD. Half the global population at risk of IDD live in the Asia-Pacific Region.

Improvements in public health are best achieved through an integrated approach, involving many different disciplines. Successful and sustainable public health outcomes are built upon sound clinical research, progressing through the development of new health policy and, ending with the implementation and monitoring of effective public health programs.
