After 17 months and almost 30,000 kilometres of travel in the ThyroMobil throughout mainland Australia the field studies for NINS have been successfully completed. We have visited 93 schools in total and examined approximately 1,800 primary school students. This has been a major collaborative effort involving many volunteers particularly the coordinators from each State, namely, Drs Margaret Zacharin and Duncan Topliss from Victoria, Dr Phillip Harding from South Australia, Dr John Walsh from Western Australia and Drs Robin Mortimer and Emily Mackenzie from Queensland. We are grateful to the numerous volunteers who have helped in carrying out these studies.
The urinary iodine levels have been analysed in the Iodine Laboratory in ICPMR. Data analysis of these results and Thyroid Ultrasound measurements is in progress. |
